Christmas Party

Our annual Christmas party takes place Sunday Dec. 17 starting at noon with snacks. The Humane Society of Southern Illinois will visit from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and we will donate 10% of sales during that period to them. The Southern Illinois Roller Girls will be here to help with the Christmas drawing of about $1500 worth of items at 4:30. How to get tickets for the drawing:

Come in.  You get 1 ticket just for coming into the store

Wear a Christmas sweater or hat (1 ticket for each). Just a red and green sweater will not count. It must be something that shows off your Christmas spirit.

Get one for each 5 usable cans of food or 10 pounds of Newspaper

Get one ticket for each stamp you earn on your Castle Card that day

See you Sunday

Christmas Party and Drawing

Join us today, Sunday December 18, for cookies, doughnuts, hot cider and our annual Christmas drawing at 4 p.m. You receive 1 ticket for coming in, 1 if you have a Preferred Customer Card, 1 for each 5 cans or other usable food items, and 1 for each stamp earned on a Castle Card today. Drawing will take place starting at 4 p.m and you must be present to win.

Stocking Stuffer of the Year 2016

Since 2014, the store has selected a Stocking Stuffer of the Year. The games winning this honor have to meet three criteria:

1) cost less than $20

2) easily fit in a stocking

3) Be a lot of fun to play

This year we chose Antidote from Bellwether Games because it fits all three criteria. On several occasions, we have played the game at the store and players wanted to start another game as soon as they finished the first one. Add in the fact that the publisher, Bellwether Games, is located here in Carbondale and you can see why Antidote is our choice for Stocking Stuffer of the Year

Stocking Stuffer of the Year

What is the Stocking Stuffer of the Year? Each year we select a game that meets three criteria:

  1.  It is fun to play
  2. It has a small package, the better to fit into a stocking
  3. It costs less than $20

The Stocking Stuffer of the Year in 2014 was Asmodee’s Timeline, a fun game that only costs $14.99 and in which knowledge of history helps but is not necessary. 2015’s choice was Love Letter, a neat little game of bluffing that can play in less than 15 minutes.

What is 2016’s Stocking Stuffer of the Year? Check back here on Monday or listen to Scott on Talk of the Town at 1o a.m. on December 12.
